Notes

There are few more reliable wines in the world than Domaine Alain Graillot’s appellation-defining Crozes-Hermitage. Its alluring notes of meat, olive, perfume and savoury plum have delighted Syrah lovers for 3 decades. Not only does it offer traditionalism, pure fruit and relatively early drinkability, it ages well too. Alain suggests that 2016 is similar to 2001 in style which, 15 years later, is in fine fettle.

‘Fans of the traditional style should love the 2016 vintage in the northern Rhône, a far cooler year than 2015.’ – Vinous.com

‘The younger vintage, 2016, has even more buzz. Producers are likening it to the classic 2010, with its powerful fruit but greater emphasis on structure and spine.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

Tasting notes:
'A light coating of mocha allows dark cherry and plum compote flavors to glide through center stage while gentle black tea and sandalwood notes fill in on the finish. Alluring. Drink now through 2022.' – Wine Spectator, 92/100

'Completely whole cluster as always, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage comes across as slightly ashy and vegetal, yet it has enough green olive, cola and raspberry notes to possess a sense of balance. It's medium to full-bodied, with a silky mouthfeel and a long finish.' – The Wine Advocate (tasted December 2018), 90/100
