Bordeaux en-primeur 2016
How does en-primeur work?
Each year, journalists and merchants descend on Bordeaux to taste barrel samples of the previous year's harvest. After 6 months the wines have completed their final fermentation and start opening up after winter. It is important to note that these are not the final blends of the wines and therefore most of the critics offer a score that is open to change, e.g. Neal Martin 92-94/100. The châteaux gradually release their wines into the Bordeaux market through 400 négociants, at prices dependant on the vintage, their peers and the sentiment in the market. This process generally begins in April and can last until the end of June, though the length of the campaign varies each year. The wines are then bottled and released in mid-2019. We can have your purchases available in London or import them to South Africa.
Buying en-primeur during the campaign allows you to pick from over 500 different châteaux, buy rare wines usually not available in the market, choose your desired bottle formats (sizes), as well as buy at the lowest price possible.
