Trimbach - Ribeauville
Jean
Trimbach started making wines in Alsace in 1626 and since, these have
been the benchmark of Alsatian wines. Today, Hubert is at the helm
continuing the tradition.
With many Alsation wines pushing the level
of ripeness, Trimbach's wines are classical and elegant with great
ageing potential. They achieve excellent balance and vintages such as
2002, 2005 and 2007 are profound.
The Cuvee Frederic Emile honours Frederic
Trimbach who created international acclaim with his wines in at the
Brussels fair in 1898. The old vine clay-limestone vineyard overlooks
Trimbach with great Southerly exposure. It has the richness and
longevity of Grand Cru Burgundy with masses of minerality. Clos St Hune
is even more speical, rated as perhaps Alsace's greatest Riesling; from
an exceptional 1.3 hectare plot near Hunawihr. Of great longevity and
very rare (production rarely exceeds 7000 bottles), Clos Sainte Hune
takes at least seven years to reach its peak. The wine is vinified to
complete dryness leaving no residual sugar. Fermented in stainless steel
vats with no oak aging or malolactic fermentation.

Huet - Vouvray ,
Loire
Founded in 1928, the Huet estate
now covers 35 hectares divided between three properties: Le
Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Le Clos du Bourg. These are all
cultivated biodynamically where the earth is recognised as being
a living entity and no chemicals are used. The wines are made
from each vineyard and in varying degrees of sweetness. The
good vintages like 2005 have the ability to last decades. Le
Mont is an 8-hectare estate which borders the slopes of the
Loire Valley, in the first slopes area. The soil is pebbly and
consists mainly of green-coloured clay and silica. The wines
produced are elegant and feminine. Le Haut-Lieu covers 9
hectares, with very deep clayey limestone soil, predominantly
brown clay. This rather heavy soil generally produces supple
wines. The 6 hectare Le Clos du Bourg is surrounded by stone
walls, located on the first slopes above the church in Vouvray.
In the 7th century, this was a fiefdom owned by the Saint Martin
collegiate church in Tours. The rather thin soil, only about one
metre in depth, lies in direct contact with the non-active
limestone. Le Clos du Bourg produces a powerful and
well-structured wine.
